Mars since ages was the centre of curiosity. Due to its position in the solar system, its climate conditions, possibility of life and distance from earth. With the invention of telescope during 17th century it attained a lot of attention of scientists across the world. Curious scientists have been continuously struggling to determine if life ever emerged on mars and secondly to characterize the climate and geology of mars. Continuous efforts have been made to enable us to explore Mars in ways we never have before, resulting in higher-resolution images, precision landings, longer-ranging surface mobility and even the return of Martian soil and rock samples for studies in laboratories here on Earth.
On 6tn August 2012, there have been two scientific rovers on the surface of Mars beaming signals back to Earth (Opportunity of the mars exploration rover mission, and Curiosity of the mars science mars laboratory mission), and five orbiters currently surveying the planet. As per an update on a website, on 24 January 2014, NASA reported that “current studies on the planet Mars by the above mentioned rovers will now be searching for evidence of ancient life, including a biosphere based on autotrophic, chemotropic and/or chemolitoautotropic micro organisms, as well as ancient water, including fluvio-lacustric environments (plains related to ancient rivers or lakes) that may have been habitable.” Scientists want to explore features like dry riverbeds, ice in the polar caps and rock types that only form when water is present, Hot springs, hydrothermal vents or subsurface water reserves.
The thrill and sensation of the mars exploration project has been transformed into many stories and movies. Similar kind of movies has shown the mars alien in different ways. But the faith remains and gets stronger day by day that there was or there is a possibility of life on mars and moon both. Recently India also achieved success in its mars mission. India`s mars orbiter aircraft was launched on 5th November 2013 which was expected to reach mars orbit on 24th September 2014. With the success of this mission ISRO became the 4th to reach on mars and India the first Asian country.
